Leaning on you

Many day-to-day decisions still come back to you. Buyers see that as a risk and usually pay less, or ask you to stay on for years.

An example for a made-up business. The Owner Independence Score is opening soon.

What you get

A way in, and a team to do the work.

Most owners won’t start planning their exit until someone they trust brings it up. Here’s what you can offer when you do.

A way to start the conversation

The free Owner Independence Score takes a client about 10 minutes, with nothing to prepare. It shows them how much their business leans on them and where to start. Run it with a client in a meeting, or send them your link.

The work you don’t have time for

Putting a successor in place, writing down how the business runs and cleaning up the books takes 18 to 36 months on top of running a company. We do that work with your client.

You stay in the picture

Clients who come through your link are told they came through you, and that you may see their score and contact details so you can help them with it. You stay their trusted advisor.

How it works

Three steps, and the first two are free.

We set up your link

After a short call, you get a personal link to the free score. Clients who come through it are told they came through you.

Your client takes the score

About 10 minutes on a phone or computer. They see where the business leans on them, and we email them a one-page summary.

You decide the next step together

If a client wants more, a two-week NewExit diagnostic looks at the business in depth and gives them a plan. You may see their score and contact details, so you can help them make the call.

What clients pay. The score is free. The diagnostic is $2,500 for our first clients (then $5,000). The sale fee is 5% of the price, paid at closing with no upfront retainer, and everything a client pays before the sale is credited against it. See the full price list.

Why now

The window for a well-prepared sale is open.

Owners are retiring

A large wave of owners is nearing retirement. Many have no successor and no realistic way out.

Buyers have money

Private equity firms have bought hundreds of HVAC, plumbing and electrical companies since 2022. What’s scarce is businesses that still work after the owner leaves.

Lenders want proof

New SBA lending rules, in effect since October 1, 2026, put more weight on documented results and call for an independent earnings review on larger deals.1 Clean books and documented independence matter more than ever.

  1. SBA Standard Operating Procedure 50 10 8.1, effective October 1, 2026. Among other changes, it calls for an independent quality-of-earnings review on larger business-acquisition loans, where the purchase price is $3 million or more.

Built to be trusted with your clients.

Owners hand us their books, their customers and their opinions of their staff. Protecting that is a core part of the product, not an afterthought. Read how we use AI and protect data.

  • We represent sellers only. We never buy businesses ourselves.
  • A data agreement is signed before we record or connect anything.
  • Each client’s data is walled off from every other client’s.
  • We never sell client data.
  • A named person on our team signs off every report before it reaches a client or a buyer.

Questions

What advisors ask us.

Does it cost my clients anything to take the score?

No. The score is free, and taking it doesn’t commit anyone to anything.

What happens to my clients’ information?

We use their answers and contact details to give them their score and, if they agree, to follow up about it. We never sell them, and they can ask us to delete them at any time. If they come through your link, you may see their score and contact details so you can help them. The details are in our privacy notice.

Do you represent buyers, or buy businesses?

No. We always represent the seller, and we never buy businesses ourselves.

Which businesses are a fit?

Healthy, owner-run businesses earning roughly $750,000 to $3 million a year in profit before the owner’s pay, whose owner plans to sell within three years. In the trades, that’s typically $3 to $15 million in revenue. We’re starting with Michigan trades businesses such as concrete, HVAC, plumbing and electrical contractors.

How do we get started?
